The Installation of Gamma Rho Chapter of Sigma Zeta at Miami Dade College

April 7, 2017

Under the direction of Dr. James Hall, the Gamma Rho Chapter of Sigma Zeta was installed on April 7, 2017.  The event was opened by Dr. Carlos Fernandez, who introduced Dr. Hall.  The meeting was officially called to order by Dr.Hall at 1:05pm in the Multi-purpose room of Building 3 on the Miami Dade College-InterAmerican campus. Dr. James Hall, Sigma Zeta Chairperson, welcomed the visitors and spoke about the role of the sciences in a liberal arts education. Dr. Hall then proceeded to install the chapter by welcoming the faculty members from the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics into Membership. 

Dr. Orlando Pando Morejon, Dr. Carlos Fernandez, Prof. Jyrko Correa Morris, Prof. Luis Rodriguez, Prof. Belarmino Gonzalez were present for the installation.

Dr. Hall then proceeded to install the chapter by welcoming the student members: Richard Acosta, Jennifer Bahamonde, Ruben Reyes, Andy Rivero, and Charles Rivero.

Dr. Fernandez explained some of the symbolism of the organization at this time.  The faculty were given certificates and pins.

Dr. Hall then welcomed the collegiate charter members of the organization to membership with a plaque.  These students included:

Dr. Hall explained more of the symbols of the organization. 

Following these initiations a business meeting occurred for the purpose of electing officers. 

Dr. Orlando Pando-Morejon will serve as the Faculty Advisor to the Organization. The rest of the organizations executive board will be determined later in time, when the appropriate election process is held.

Dr. Jim Hall presented the history of Sigma Zeta with a power point presentation.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:15 pm and refreshments were served.
