Message From the National Officers
Sigma Zeta was organized by a few individuals dedicated to the principle that science is best taught by actively engaging students in research. The organization supports undergraduate research by providing opportunities for students to present results of independent or faculty sponsored research at an annual national convention hosted by one of the member institutions during spring. Many scientists who have made major contributions in their fields have had their start at small undergraduate institutions where faculty recognized their potential and encouraged their development. Sigma Zeta recognizes and honors potential in students and provides opportunity for professional development early in a student's career. The impact of such opportunity is immeasurable.
As Sigma Zeta's membership includes individuals from all science and mathematics disciplines, the organization provides an excellent avenue for students and faculty to grow as scientists through cross-disciplinary discourse. Sigma Zeta recognizes scholarship among science and mathematics students and is, as such, an honor society with limited membership, but we encourage students who are not yet members to attend our annual convention where they are sure to see others their age making important contributions to scientific knowledge.
If your school needs another toll to assist in the education and development
of science students, we encourage you to contact one of the officers
of the Sigma Zeta Executive Council to discuss the formation of a new
chapter (New Charter Application Form). Any of the member institutions can assist you with this. The
strength of Sigma Zeta as a national organization lies in its members
and member institutions. Join us as we strive to promote undergraduate
science scholarship through recognition and opportunity.
