Keynote Speaker : Mr. Raul Zavaleta
Title: Promoting Science in the Community
Bio: Born and raised in El Salvador, Mr. Zavaleta moved to the United States at age 19. He learned English well enough to enroll in East Los Angeles Community College and later transferred to the University of California at Los Angeles graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering.
In 1985, Mr. Zavaleta moved to Indianapolis to start his first venture, SciCor, the first clinical laboratory exclusively dedicated to clinical trials, which became the foundation of Covance, Inc., one of the most successful global contract research organizations.
Mr. Zavaleta has worked with multiple companies in the medical technology field including Strategies for Tomorrow, Strand Analytical Laboratories, and Semafore Pharmaceuticals, Inc. With more than 25 years of international entrepreneurial experience in life sciences, Mr. Zavaleta continues to help launch and expand health information technology enterprises by both founding and mentoring companies.
In addition, Mr. Zavaleta was the founder and CEO of AVANTEC where he pioneered a new electronic data collection process for biopharmaceutical research. He serves on the Boards of the UCLA foundation, The Indiana Health Industry Forum, Marian University, and is an active member of the Central Indiana Life Sciences Initiative.
